The Human Eater Laboratory Murder Case Final ChapterSomeone had request to me for make an article about Mayu's riddle that given to Kindaichi.
This answers I get from Alfred Chung.
He said there is three answers on this riddle.
But, I only found two answers.
This is the question.
The questions based on the manga : Kai - 1
Takatsu - 18
Soga - 9
Torimoto - 7
Terasako - 1
Fujioka - 20
Toride - 15
The clue is ....
Absent numbers in Japanese school is based on Hiragana sequences:
A - I - U - E - O
Ka - Ki - Ku - Ke - Ko, etc.
So, the student absent will be like this :
1. Akimine
2. Igasa
3. Enoki
4. Okazaki
5. Kai
6. Kato
7. Kinoshita
8. Kindaichi
9. Kuwabara
10. Kozuka
etc...
There are 3 answers that we can get from this puzzle.
First Answer
We need the absent number for each name, then subtract the absent number with the number written next to the name.
We will get a number and change this number to alphabet, e.g. 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc.
So,
Number | Absent | Calculate | Result | Alphabet | |
Kai | 1 | 5 | 5-1 | 4 | D |
Takatsu | 18 | 19 | 19-18 | 1 | A |
Soga | 9 | 18 | 18-9 | 9 | I |
Torimoto | 7 | 26 | 26-7 | 19 | S |
Terasako | 1 | 22 | 22-1 | 21 | U |
Fujioka | 20 | 31 | 31-20 | 11 | K |
Toride | 15 | 24 | 24-15 | 9 | I |
So, the first answer is DAISUKI / 大好き / I like you.
Second Answer
Change the number next to the name to alphabet. e.g. 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C, etc.
So,
Number | Alphabet |
1 | A |
18 | R |
9 | I |
7 | G |
1 | A |
20 | T |
15 | O |
So, the second answer is ARIGATO / ありがと / Thank you.
Third Answer
Take the last hiragana from each name.
Name | Name | Last Hiragana | Hiragana |
Kai | Ka-I | I | い |
Takatsu | Ta-Ka-Tsu | Tsu | つ |
Soga | So-Ga | Ga | が |
Torimoto | To-Ri-Mo-To | To | と |
Terasako | Te-Ra-Sa-Ko | Ko | こ |
Fujioka | Fu-Ji-O-Ka | Ka | か |
Toride | To-Ri-De | De | で |
It becomes いつがとこかで / Itsugatokokade.
But, because the meaning is confusing, we need to move dakuten (“) from が/ga to と/to and it becomes か/ka and ど/do.
So, the third answer is Itsu ka doko ka de / いつかどこかで / Someday Somewhere.
Maybe it means that she wants to meet Kindaichi again in the future.
(She does meet Kindaichi again, in Hitokui Laboratorium)
